~Fiesta de Octobre: Fiesta #2 - "Busy Fingers"~

Welcome to Fiesta #2 of the "Fiesta de Octobre"!!!! Last week was lots of fun, so I hope y'all will all come back for this party too!

This week, we have another special and very unique giveaway. My friend Joanna from Jo-with-it's Portfolio and the Josnazz etsy shop has "donated" two pairs of home-beaded earrings for this giveaway! The first place winner will receive this lovely pair....

Second place will receive this lovely pair:
Note: if you don't have your ears pierced, don't let that keep you from entering! This may be a great chance to get a free Christmas/birthday present for a friend or relative :)

FYI: Both pairs are about 2" long.

I created my first Blogger profile in...summer 2008. I wanted to read the blog of a friend of mine who was going to Israel, plus the blog of another Messianic friend of mine. (both of those blogs are no longer active...or at least, updated once a year :D)
After my friend came back from Israel, I didn't do much with blogs for several months. Then somehow, I have no recollection how, I stumbled upon two blogs simultaneously: Jo-with-it's Portfolio and Lucie Land. I *finally* figured out the whole "following" thing in January 2009, and promptly followed them. I still didn't use my Blogger Dashboard, I just had the links in my bookmarks :) It was months before I followed anyone else, so when you're only reading two blogs, you get to "know" those two girls pretty well. :) I read all their archives, learned to identify all of their family members and wished and wished that someday I could make a blog as good as theirs. So that's why I'm so excited to be able to do my friend Joanna a turn this week by hosting this giveaway!

Now with that background to inspire you and make you feel all warm and fuzzy, it's time to start this second of the fiestas!

The ways to earn entries are essentially the same, but there are a few changes, so do re-read them:

¡mandatory! #1: Fill out the fiesta questions below ~ 2 entries
¡mandatory! #2 Write a post about your favorite craft or hobby ~ 1 entry
#3: Follow my blog ~ 1 entry
#4: Favorite Joanna's etsy shop ~ 1 entry
#5: Follow Joanna's blog {Jo-with-it's Portfolio} ~ 1 entry
#6: Put the Fiesta de Octobre button in your sidebar (if you haven't already) ~ 1 entry

If you have already put the button in your sidebar for the previous party, you do not get the extra point. (That'd be too confusing for me :D)

You'll notice that there are TWO mandatory entries this week. That's because of the theme of this party. Not everyone sews, knits or crochets, so how are we going to learn more about your favorite hobby or craft (especially if it's an obscure one) if you don't post about?! :) So that's why there are only 10 fiesta questions this week and 1 mandatory extra post. Fair enough, right? NOTE: the fiesta answers post and the favorite craft/hobby post do NOT have to be done on the same day or in the same post!

Note: there are no suggested posts for this fiesta.

Leave one comment with a list of each of the things you did to enter the giveaway. Put each item on a different line so it's easy for me to count them up. On the days you do the "extra" posts, leave one comment for each post. So, a sample comment would look like this:

Hey Jo! This giveaway/fiesta event sounds really neat! Here's what I did to join the fun:
1. I'm following your blog
2. I just posted my fiesta question answers on my blog and put my name in the Linky
3. I followed Joanna's blog
4. I just did my craft post and entered my name in the Linky.

So, now for the fiesta questions! This week's theme is titled "Busy Fingers" because it's all about crafts and hobbies. Even the giveaway is crafty :) (but then, so was last weeks, so is next weeks and....)

{1} What is your favorite hobby or craft to do?
{2} What's the biggest/most difficult project you've ever tackled?
{3} What project of yours are you the most proud of?
{4} Someone gives you a $20 JoAnn Fabrics giftcard. The first thing that comes to mind to spend it on is...
{5} Can you do a project and watch a movie at the same time?
{6} When you are hand sewing, do you bite off your thread when you're done, or snip it with scissors or just break it with your fingers?
{7} Does anyone in your family collect things (like tea cups, stamps, bottle caps, etc.)?
{8} What are your favorite color combinations that you use in your crafts?
{9} Does decorating a Mr. or Mrs. Potato Head sound interesting to you?
{10} The manager at your theater needs help in the making of the costumes and/or set decoration and set up for the next production. You volunteer to do....what?

Here's the Linky:

Now, here's an outline that you can use to organize your favorite craft/hobby post:

1. First, name your favorite craft/hobby
2. Tell us why you like it and how you got started on it
3. Take a picture of something you've made or complied (if you're a collector) and tell us about it, how you made it and found it. (if you're doing this in the comment section, just describe it for us.)
4. Have you taught anyone else to do this craft/hobby? If so, who and why?
5. Sum up your post with the reasons why you like your craft/hobby and whether we should all take it up or not :)

The Linky:

I will be answering the questions and doing my craft/hobby post later this week, since I don't have time today.

Have fun, and don't forget to link up and comment!

  5. Okay, Jo, here's my questions- (So I can do the post in the comment section since I don't have a blog???)

{1} What is your favorite hobby or craft to do?

    A. I love ALL crafts!!!! I can knit, crochet, cross-stitch, digital scrapbook, make cards, make jewelry, sew, and probably more, but that's all I can think of right now! So I don't have a favorite, I love it all!

    {2} What's the biggest/most difficult project you've ever tackled?

    A. Hmmm.... I'm not sure. Right now I'm working on crocheting a baby blanket for a good friend. I have to make 30 squares and have only done 6... Yeah, I need to get going on that...

{3} What project of yours are you the most proud of?

    A. Um, I don't know. Probably the cards I make. A friend of ours just got engaged on Staturaday, so I made her a card and now she wants me to help her make wedding invitations!!!!!

{4} Someone gives you a $20 JoAnn Fabrics giftcard. The first thing that comes to mind to spend it on is...

    A. Either fabric or wool!!!!

{5} Can you do a project and watch a movie at the same time?

    A. Yes!!! Depends on what it is, but I have done it!!!

{6} When you are hand sewing, do you bite off your thread when you're done, or snip it with scissors or just break it with your fingers?

    A. Normally cut it.

{7} Does anyone in your family collect things (like tea cups, stamps, bottle caps, etc.)?

    A. Um, no, not really.....

{8} What are your favorite color combinations that you use in your crafts?

    A. Oh, gee!!!! I like a LOT of color combinations!!!! Though, I do like yellow, blue, and white together!!!

{9} Does decorating a Mr. or Mrs. Potato Head sound interesting to you?

    A. Uh, no. But when my neice is old enough to play with hers, it'lll have to be!!!

{10} The manager at your theater needs help in the making of the costumes and/or set decoration and set up for the next production. You volunteer to do....what?

    A. Oh... I'd say "I can do just about anything! I can sew, knit, crochet, anything! AndI love decoratring! Or I could make the little hand-out-invatation things!!!! (forget what they're called)

Alright, I'm gonna try and put myself in the linky now... Hope I can do it...

  12. Here's my "post"-
    My favorite hobby?
Can I tell you??? I go between different ones all the time. Right now I'm on chrocheting. I am making a baby blanket for a close friend and after that, I hope to make another for a lady in our church.
Chrocheting is so easy. I can just pick up and go with it. I don't have to worry about paying TOO much attention to it, depending on what it is. I can simply pick up a book or watch a movie and crochet at the SAME time!!!!! =)
I started crocheting about a year ago. My neighbor (an older lady)used to chrochet and showed me some of the things she made. They were GORGEOUS!!! I just had to learn how to do this. When I first started it I loved it- until I cam to start another row. I just couldn't get it in my little ole' pea brain how! So I quit. I took it up again a few months ago and finally figured it out. Now I chrochet ALL the time! :)
It's a great skill to have! And handy,, too! I mean, c'mon, you can make almost ANYTHING with it and it's so easy once you get the hang of it!
I do beleive others should take this up. Like I said in the above paragraph, you can make anthing- any time- any place. I find I can make MANY gifts out of chrocheting too. Though I have never personally taght someone chrocheting, I talked my good friend into learning how. But she learned from a book, as she's beeter at it that way than someone explaining it.
So get out there, and start chrocheting!!!!!!
